The Annual Civic Luncheon, a highlight of the Aldersgate Ward Club's social calendar, was held in the Livery Hall of Guildhall. On entering the Livery Hall 118 members and guests forgot about the outside temperatures to enjoy a sparkling Chardonnay reception with the musical backing of the Kaleidoscope Saxophone Quartet. An exceptionally tasty three course lunch of Scottish Scallops, Noisettes of Veal and Apple and Plum Tarte Tatin with accompanying wines followed by port, coffee and chocolate truffles was then enjoyed.
The Master proposed the traditional Loyal and Civic Toasts and then introduced our Civic guest, Alderman and Sheriff William Russell and his wife Hilary.
Alderman and Sheriff Russell gave an interesting and entertaining speech and spoke about his involvement with the charities Place2be, of which he is Deputy Chairman, and Prostate Cancer UK, of which he is Trustee and Chairman.
The Master replied and sent greetings to the Lord Mayor and presented a cheque from the Aldersgate Ward Club to the Lord Mayor's charities supporting music opportunities for young people. In her reply, The Master also drew upon her love of history and where better to find that than in the traditions of the City of London
The Master congratulated the Club's retiring Honorary Secretary, Past Master Valerie Hamilton, on her 22 years of service to the Club including the organisation of twenty two Civic lunches! Past Master Ron Wood presented her with a bouquet of spring flowers.
The Master received hearty praise from members for such a wonderful occasion. Thank you Master!
David Parsons.
